There is no doubt that Arthur Conan Doyle’s creation of Holmes and Watson represents a milestone in crime fiction. “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes” contains twelve stories, ostensibly written in the first person by his friend and companion, Dr Watson.
Originally published monthly in “The Strand Magazine” during 1891-92 and then as a book on October 14th 1892, the series established Sherlock Holmes’s popularity in Victorian literature and led to the subsequent iconic status he now holds.
These stories showcase Sherlock Holmes’s character and unique method of logical observation and deduction. The collection contains many of Holmes’s most celebrated cases.
Conan Doyle was knighted by King Edward VII in the 1902 Coronation Honours.
