The Little Women Collection by Louisa May Alcott presented by The Online Stage.

This collection includes the remastered Online Stage productions of Little Women, Little Men, Jo’s Boys as well as Comic Tragedies by Jo & Meg.

Little Women is the story of four sisters growing up against the background of the American Civil War. Alcott wrote the book at the urging of the publisher, Thomas Niles, who was seeking a story about girls that would have popular appeal. Although it was commenced essentially as a children’s book, it developed into something of a bildungsroman, which touches on more serious issues such as the difficulties faced by single-parent families, the death of a sibling, and fractured relationships.

Little Men tells the continuing story of Jo March, who has married Professor Bhaer, with whom she now runs a small school.

In Jo’s Boys, we revisit the Plumfield clan 10 years later, all grown up and finding their way through life’s adventures and misadventures. Simmering romances blossom for some while the bravery and strength of others are tested. Through it all, Jo and Professor Bhaer desperately hope they have done their duty in raising up good citizens of the world with dreams, passions, empathy, and intelligence. Alcott shines once again with her ability to write human emotion through real-world scenarios that are still relevant today.

Comic Tragedies by Jo & Meg is a collection of plays written by Jo and Meg March, often discussed and performed in the March family attic by the beloved Little Women as the Pickwick Players. Our cast returns as Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth to perform every role with dramatic flair from damsels in distress to evil villains, and no shortage of mistaken identities and sword fights.

Narrators—Lee Ann Howlett and Erin Grassie

Presented by The Online Stage

Floyd Dell has been called “one of the most flamboyant, versatile, and influential American Men of Letters of the first third of the 20th century”. Though he was primarily a newspaper and magazine editor, most prominently of the radical left-wing magazine The Masses, he also published many best-selling feminist works. As a staunch advocate of feminism, socialism, psychoanalysis, and progressive education, his writing greatly shocked the American bourgeoisie at the time, to the point where it became so controversial, he was put on trial twice for his subversive literature.

This is a complete collection of all 11 of his short plays, which include many delights, such as a dialogue musing upon the curiosities of human nature, fights between lovers, a tragic fantasy story, and even a comedic take on a popular biblical tale.

According to legend, the Pyncheon family has been cursed by their 17th century ancestor, Colonel Pyncheon, who stole the land from Matthew Maule. Maule was later put to death after being accused of witchcraft and the deed for the land could not be found. Now living in the New England mansion fraught with haunted miseries of the past, Hepzibah Pyncheon opens a small shop to pull herself from the poverty-striken curse she has lived under while her brother, Clifford, was serving a decades-long prison sentence for murder. Her young cousin, Phoebe, moves in and quickly wins the hearts of customers, as well as that of the strange tenant at Seven Gables, Mr. Holgrave. Pursued by their wealthy and relentless cousin, Judge Jaffrey Pyncheon, the family pieces together new evidence of what really happened with the murder and the missing deed.

Presented by The Online Stage
Nineteen twenty-three was a year of prosperity in America, so much so, that many took the time to travel for the holidays. No destination was more prominent in the minds of Americans than the near tropical paradise of Florida.
Our story takes us to Merritt Island, Florida, and a small spot on the map known as Angel City, where Wesley Sutton has spent many years building up a boarding house designed to be “a home away from home.” This year Wesley’s guests experience the Christmas spirit in a way that they had little expected.

After starting out as a novelistic storyteller, she explored the notion that words have sufficient power in themselves to create context, and hence the historical structures represented by the novel and narrative poem became unessential, although still useful.

A writer like Gertrude Stein is an obvious target for parody. However, this piece was devised not just as a parody but also as a tribute. Whether one wishes to admit it or not, Gertrude Stein was a seminal figure in 20th century literature, one whose contribution will be the source of study and discussion for generations to come.
