The first three novels from comic master P.G. Wodehouse’s saga of Blandings Castle and its fluffy-minded proprietor, Lord Emsworth. Beginning with two impecunious young American exiles infiltrating Blandings in the guise of servants, to recover the gem of Mr J Preston Peters’ scarab collection from the Blandings museum. Then, the immaculate Psmith, borrowing the identity of an absconded Canadian poet, checks into Blandings in amiable pursuit of Eve Halliday, and becomes embroiled in a diamond heist. And finally, sundered hearts stalk the castle, as his lordship’s disreputable brother, the Hon Galahad Threepwood, completes his scandalous memoirs, and Lord Emsworth’s beloved prize pig, Empress of Blandings, is dramatically kidnapped!

Mystery novelist Harriet Vane is accused of the murder of her former lover, Philip Boyes, by cold-blooded poisoning with arsenic. The evidence against her appears overwhelming, but society sleuth Lord Peter Wimsey is convinced of her innocence. With only a month to save the defendant from the hangman, Wimsey races to find new evidence that will prove Miss Vane’s innocence and identify the true murderer. And in this case, his lordship has a very special motivation to succeed….

Young Dr Oldfield is puzzled by the strangely intractable illness of his recently acquired patient, the Modernist potter Peter Gannet, and he calls upon his old teacher, Dr Thorndyke, to consult. Thorndyke quickly identifies the true cause of the illness as arsenic poisoning, and there seems little doubt that the poison has been administered by someone in Gannet’s household. After his discharge from the hospital, what will be the result when Gannet returns to his home?

In a genteel ABC teashop on the Norfolk Road, Miss Polly Burton (of the Evening Observer) spends her lunch breaks listening to a mysterious old man, as he unravels cases of murder, blackmail, theft, and deceit that have filled the headlines, and baffled police and public alike. But to him, they are not “mysteries” at all – for Polly’s brilliant but eccentric companion, “There is no such thing as a mystery in connection with any crime, provided intelligence is brought to bear upon its investigation.”

Since retiring from business, the chief obsessions of American millionaire J. Preston Peters are his dyspepsia and his collection of Egyptian scarabs.

So, when fluffy-minded peer Lord Emsworth – father of Freddie Threepwood, fiancé of Mr. Peters’ daughter, Aline – absent-mindedly pockets the gem of Mr. Peters’ collection, and puts it on display in the museum at Blandings Castle, Mr. Peters offers rich rewards to anyone who can get the precious scarab back for him…without causing a scandal.

Two impecunious young American exiles in London rise to the challenge, infiltrating Blandings in the guise of servants. But can they succeed while also navigating the pitfalls of below-stairs etiquette – and eluding the vigilance of Lord Emsworth’s secretary, the efficient Baxter?

This text is the original US-published version of the first novel in Wodehouse’s Blandings saga.

Eccentric collector Daniel Penrose fails to return home after being involved in a fatal car accident. In his absence, his house is burgled, apparently by someone possessing a key to the room in which he secretly stores a collection of valuable gemstones and coins; and then, as Penrose’s wealthy father nears death, questions of inheritance arise. Dr John Thorndyke is asked to establish what has become of the missing man.
